Past Week in Writing

Updated: Jan 26, 2023

Well, the struggle is real.

I've edited about 113 pages of my novel as of this moment, but my goal for today was 135 pages. I'll need to re-evaluate my schedule...

I also took on an extreme amount of extra work, and had a personal development that has me off my game. Fun side note, I'm now spending the MONTH getting my rabies shots. It's always something... On the bright side, I went to an IWWG free write session, and even though it was 2am my time, it was worth it. The event was hosted by Dorothy Randall Gray, and she was extremely kind and patient with everyone. Gray taught us all a new way to build a poem, and I hope to explore that a bit more in the future. I'm also working on exploring fun dictionary poems, which I can't seem to get out of my system, which I think means I'm going to be writing about a thousand of them before I can move on. As of right now, I'm working Ekphrastic's writing challenge, which I want to turn in a bit later today, and I need to rebuff my submissions to 30. I got two rejections this week, but one acceptance in 45th Parallel (just waiting on the contract before I share everywhere). Woo!

I've been waiting for responses from agents and the one publishing house I sent my poetry manuscript off to, but no responses yet. I'm keeping my hopes up, and have no plans as of yet to tear down my manuscript to a chapbook, if I can help it.

Coming up this week in writing:

-Finish edits on my novel (PLEASE, if this ain't like watching molasses try to crawl uphill, MY GAWD)

-Type up some poems (typed two so far today, got quite a few more to work through)

-Chapter One finish of my sci-fi thing

-30 subs upkeep

-Submit my pieces to the MWG (I'm coming hoooooommmeeee~)

-For real choose a chapbook topic and follow through

-Check 3Elements

I've been watching some videos on how to organize time efficiently, but it's so hard to complete more than three or so tasks in a day without feeling exhausted. I think the most important part is coming up with a schedule that works best for you and with your personality, but I am just straight up dead lately. I'm going to try the tried and true practice of accomplishing things in small amounts to see if that helps elevate my mood.

I don't think it's possible to write, work, exercise, learn Chinese, and maintain personal relationships at the same time. Choices will be made.

On to more life in Beijing details... lockdown ended!

For three days, and then my area had a lil collection of people test positive for COVID (today) so now all the bars and clubs are closing again. :D

We'll find out today if the restaurant are out again as well.

Right before this happened though, we made to The Forbidden City!

It was CRAZY empty. It was me, my husband, the cleaners, and like three live streamers. Take a look and I'll talk to you guys later!

You're going great! Don't be too hard on yourself. It'll all work out in the end.

Love you
